I was under the impression that type 1 diabetes comes on quite quickly. I have also heard insulin can make your eye sight better or rather reduce the glcouse around the eyes. Howveer I havent changed my glasses prescription for a year and a half. Just diagnosed type1 and on insulin and suddenly I can see better reading close up with out them??

Have I had type 1 for over a years and half? confused! Any comments?

It is possible that your pancreas began to fail a long time prior to your diagnosis. In my case, with hindsight I had symptoms for around 2 years prior to diagnosis, then I got a virus which totally overwhelmed my pancreas and I ended up with DKA. So, it is possible that your levels were elevated without you knowing then suddenly things started to get much worse prompting your pronounced symptoms and diagnosis. My eyesight improved a lot after I began to gain good control, although it is now getting worse because of my age!

When I was diagnosed diabetic and started on insulin the first thing I found (besides feeling better inside 15 mins) was my eye sight became blurred. This, I was told, was the glucose in my eye being diluted and my eyes returning to normal. I had at least six weeks off work (on full pay) whilst my eyes stabilized. You should have seen how much improvement I made to our house in that time!

Well that must explain it! I have been feeling tired and run down alot for quite a long time however I had been battling coming off a horrible drug called seroxat which left me quite ill so I would of most likely put it all down to that. To be honest wouldnt be suprised if that had triggered it after what I have recently read about the conection with SSRIs and diabetes!🙄
