THOUSANDS of patients are set to benefit from a state-of-the-art machine which is helping keep Gloucestershire at the forefront of diabetic eye care.
The high-tech scanner, which produces a detailed 3D image of the back of the eye, has pride of place in both Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General hospitals thanks to Gloucestershire Eye Therapy Trust (GETT) providing nearly ?90,000.
Consultant ophthalmologist Professor Peter Scanlon is delighted to have the two machines, which help detect the extent of eye problems caused by diabetic retinopathy ? a condition which can cause blurred vision or even blindness in people with diabetes.
