Hello all,

I had a vitrectomy (membrane peel, gas bubble, removal of scar tissue & cauterisation of a vessel too) about a year ago. This fixed the major problem of perpetual bleeds in that eye (the scar tissue they removed had snagged & was tearing a blood vessel) but in recent months I've notice the eye feels sore in the mornings & more recently it feels almost as though it takes half an hour or so to calm down as it were. I don't know if it's a lubrication issue for some reason, or the scar tissue on the surface of the eye being irritated or something, but I've noticed it's even happening during the night now - I'm ok during the day (although it's feeling a bit strained today) but when I was up a few times in the night with a poorly kid the eye was really sore & I felt like I was stumbling around half asleep & half blind again, doh! 🙄

Sorry for the long ramble but I was wondering whether this is just to be expected post a vitrectomy or whether I should give the hospital a call. At the last appointment they mentioned some old vessels, the beginings of a cataract & the start (omg how this terrifies me) of maculopathy on top of everything else. It's all starting to worry me a tad (!)...

Thanks for reading...

Hi Twitchy I haven't got any advice. I just wanted to give you a massive hug. It's so unfair that you've got yet more problems {{{{{{Twitchy}}}}}}

Hi Twitchy

No personal experience, but even if I had, I would still urge you to contact your eye surgeon / doctor, or, if you can't get direct contact, then your GP. Hope it's something easy to fix / make more comfortable for you.

If you can't get an immediate appointment with your GP or consultant, how about getting an opinion from your local optician? I did that when I suffered a minor eye problem (eye feeling like something was permanently stuck in it, worse in the morning). Sorted out with fake tears (not the usual over-the-counter eyedrops).

Ring the hospital.

I always think better be safe than sorry, and I'd rather be 'torn off a strip for being a panicker' than risk owt going wrong and blowing up into a problem, that I should have attended to but didn't.

Thanks everyone. I think I'd better stop putting it off & give the hospital a bell...i haven't had to query anything between appointments before so it will be i teresting to work out who to speak to...failing that maybe the gp or optician. Drat... 🙄 Thanks for the responses. Xx
