So tomorrow I’m off for my first retinopathy check. My sunglasses are already in my coat pocket and I’m ready to pose for paparazzi as I leave the hospital!

Good luck hope you’ll be fine,

LOL @ColinUK - smile please! Good luck, hope it all goes well for you 🙂
I’ll smile but under the condition that they only pap me from my good side!

LOL - ive got too many wrinkles these day to have a good side - count yourself lucky!😎

Everyone has a good side Darling!

I dunno whereabouts you live Colin but my money is on it being the brightest sunshine you've ever known as you walk out into the open air afterwards! LOL Exacerbated by any puddles of course.

Right in the heart of London - so walk from Covent Garden to Paddington for the eye check and then a walk back. Or a bus. Or a cab.

I’m not going with anyone and I’m intending to head to John Lewis for a spot of retail therapy afterwards. It may well be that I’m being far too optimistic about how capable I’ll be afterwards but we’ll see (or not!)
I like your plan... But the first few hours are hard on sight. The light mainly. You may be okay. It was a few hours before I could manage. Went alone too. Maybe take some ear food so you can sit and wait somewhere if need be before retail therapy. Sure you will manage it, all in your stride. Just watch out for those paps!

I had my test done on a dull day, so it was pretty much okay and I didn’t notice too much brightness. What with the current weather we are having, it will probably be a dull and rainy day tomorrow too. Good luck, hope all will be well.

I usually just have an hour or so where things are a bit bright, but no big deal. Obviously, YMMV.

I had mine done for the first time last week and wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.yes it was bright when u first leave the hospital but it was ok after a hour.maybe you can just have a coffee at the hospital and wait for a bit until your eyes clear a bit more will be helpful.good luck

I usually can't see properly for a number of hours. Not all the screening is done in hospitals many are done in various venues. I have even been to Health Authority offices.

How did it go @ColinUK ?
Did you buy something in John Lewis that you'll need to return now you can see the real colour?

Appointment was 11:50 - got here a few mins early and no queue so walked straight in.
Quick explanation then read the chart... over to the machine for the gorgeous photos... no drops as I’ve got “lovely responsive pupils” and all done.
Nothing at all concerning on the pics ‘but wait for the official report’ and see you in a year.

Now I’m off to get curtain advice from John Lewis as I’ve got a pig of a window to curtain and I’m not sure how.

When I had my eyes tested a friend of mine was there at the same time. We had the drops put in and told to wait outside. We did as we were told and our conversation revolved around, can you see the sign on the wall? Yes for both of us. Then we had a look at the paper and could read it.We were convinced she hadn't done it correctly. For me the vision was identical to the first few moments when I take my glasses off at the end of the day. It was hilarious. When I went in for the photo, i told this to the woman and she advised me that people react differently and yes the drops had worked. My sister takes hours for her vision to to return to normal. Me, I was off in about 10 minutes. My sis was not pleased.

Always a bonus when you get a compliment for something you've never even thought about 🙂

Like when I was a kid at school, and the nurse told me I had "lovely strong calves".

Actually, that was just creepy come to think of it ...
