hi there, i was diagnosed as type 1 in november. My sugars were over 100 and my sodium levels were off the scale. I am otherwise a fit male in mid forties. I am in extreme pain in my upper legs to the extent i cant cant sleep or operate daily. Ive tried lots of herbal remedies, tens machine, cbd oil, to no avail. Anyone out there that can offer any insights thanks

Welcome @markhud47 🙂 That sounds absolutely horrible for you. Is is a muscular pain? Or is it in your joints or more on the surface, if that make sense?

What are your blood sugars like now? Have you spoken to your GP or diabetes team about this pain? When did it start?

hi there my sugars are in single figures have been since jan have asked all the health professionals who say give it time it started in jan

It's going to take time to "rebalance" things in your body. If you're now in single figures for BG levels from 100 then that's a huge drop off and very quickly.

Are you T2 or T1? Your profile says 2 but above you say 1.

Have you asked for a referral to a specialist or looked at maybe physio or yoga to help with the muscular pain? Even acupuncture may be worth exploring or perhaps getting a foam roller maybe?

hi ive tried a massage roller it hasnt helped im trying cbd see if that helps im willing to try anything thanks

So diagnosed in November last year with an HbA1c over 100?

How did you come to be diagnosed and what meds were you put on?

Do you test your BG daily and pre and post meals?

Oh and hello 🙂

Welcome to the forum!

im type 2 diabetes

If you click “Edit” at the bottom of your first post, you can change that to Type 2 because you’ve written Type 1 in your opening post. That can cause confusion 🙂

And have they given you a diagnosis regarding the pain eg neuropathy, etc?

yes they said neuropathy

Ok, well hopefully it’s temporary as their suggestion to give it time suggests. In the meantime, have you asked about medication to help relieve your pain, which sounds severe.

Hi and welcome @markhud47 You say your sugar was over 100 at diagnosis (I presume that was the Hba1c figure and not a finger-prick test) and that now they are in single figures. It could well be that you had neuropathy and that the reduction in BGs has brought about regeneration of the nerves, which can be extremely painful but often resolves itself after a period of lower numbers. It happened to me, though in my case the pain was in my toes and fingers. Some people find the Neuropathy Cocktail is very helpful. I did! See the attached.

I had an extreme pain in my upper right leg that kept me awake - the GP said it was wear and tear. After a routine health check I was told I was diabetic and started on Metformin. The pain gradually went over the course of a few months and has completely gone now. Strangely, I was OK when I was walking, but it started to hurt at night when I was in bed or sitting down.

I mentioned leg pains to the DN nurse and just got a shrug, but by the time I saw her it had almost gone.

It sounds like I had the proximal neuropathy, but I only had the first symptom which was the pain.
