Expecting improvement

Didn't try home made soup again yet.

Following FreshWell week 2 and reading up about blood test results, but generally no change. I keep thinking we might have to start counting carbs. I don't want to count carbs. However, Lunch I seem happy to try just having a soup from the vending machine. Is that going to work. Doesn't seem to be a problem but doesn't seem to be doing much either.

Sigh. Loaded the Carbs & Cals app. carbs counter.

You don't need to get too hung up on 'carb counting' but just estimate what carbs there are in the portion you are having so you have an idea of how much you are having at a meal. Obviously that together with testing before you eat and 2 hours after will tell you that the meal was OK if the increase was less than 3mmol/l if not then too many carbs and you know what to do next time, reduce the portion of the high carb component and have more veg.
Serious carb counting really is for those taking insulin.

Not much happening on the ketosis. Weight stable at 94.5kg test strip value maybe down one point.

Then yesterday morning I woke up with a locked elbow (my arthritis has gotten into my elbows and in the morning they take a little bit of gentle persuading to get moving again but this time it was locked).

Then I thought, I wonder . . . so I went and weighed myself and sure enough I had lost another 1kg. Isn't that strange.

Im not saying there is any real connection between losing weight and locked elbows, but who knows.

I'd honestly not worry too much about ketosis. It'll happen or it won't, but if you are losing weight and otherwise well, I'd guess you are moving in the right direction.

Regarding losing weight and your elbows becoming more troublesome, I, personally, might be more inclined to point in the direction of the weather than losing weight. Many find when they trim up osteoarthritis and other join pains can be a bit easier. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, it could be you are having a bit of a reaction to something new or increased in your diet, but one time is no reason to make any changes yet.

Good for you grasping the reins. It is a tricky condition, but it is possible to live a good life and in many cases a healthier life with diabetes than before diagnosis. Hopefully you'll be joining that merry band soon.

Back to my normal weight (I think it might be called a yo yo diet) and wondering what to do.

I was fairly keen on ditching anything that tastes of sugar but that idea has kind of slipped, and nothing much was ditched beyond sugar in drinks.

I am suspicious of the chocolate biscuits.

If your blood glucose is still too high then you really do need to take things more seriously, it is a bit more than just ditching the sugar and definitely the chocolate biscuits. You seemed to be quite keen to embark on the Freshwell program.

Thank you @Leadinglights . I reached Freshwell week 4 Time restricted eating and intermittent fasting. I picked my own schedule and pleased to say I lost weight.

First week I think 92.5kg was 95 so I would be on track to be 90kg next weekend.

It's clear the schedule I chose wouldn't suit everyone, but its a great idea to have one of your own, and it takes a little while to figure out. Higher protein diet wasn't doing much so I moved on.

I obtained some sugar free biscuits for snacking at night to replace the chocolate digestives (you eat one sugar free biscuit, and then find out you had enough already and don't want any more). Then I decided to ditch the fried breakfast to extend overnight fasting way longer until teatime.

Cafe Latte for breakfast. Cup of soup for lunch. A normal teatime. Switch supper to low sugar, high protein like nuts, fish sticks, dark chocolate. It works fine, but then again I am used to eating that way.

I’m not sure why you’re trying to fast till teatime but just so you know, if you’re having a latte for breakfast and cup of soup for lunch then you’re not fasting

Thank you @Lucyr. I haven't tried measuring the fasting so I wouldn't know for sure. I might as well measure something though. My BG tonight was 12.7, its not massive but thats whatever feast I had for tea and needs to wear off.

Many who are following a low carb approach find that having what carbs they have are better evened out between meals so no one meal is more than their metabolism can cope with otherwise all that excess glucose is what is going to be sticking to your red blood cells and pushing up your HbA1C. As long as your 2 hour post meal reading is no more than 8-8.5 mmol/l then that is fine but as high as 12 plus is not so good and well over what you should be aiming at.*

I thought you might say that @Leadinglights.

Also the wisdom of taking a fasting reading becomes more clear after what @Lucyr said. 5.8 before lunch.

That begins to look more promising. I might be able to make do with half a hot dog at a time.

One hasn't really lost enough weight, I seem to be stuck at 88.8kg even with more walking, so I suppose it's back to a more careful diet, which did actually seem to work. No sugar in hot drinks again. More high protein low carbs.

If one has a Type 2 diagnosis then dietary changes have to be for the long term so your low carb and no sugar added to drinks has to be your new normal way of eating. That is not to say you can't have the occasional treat.

If you still need to lose weight slowly is fine. You may find a week when you do not lose. As a type 2 adding sugar is a bad idea. I stopped taking sugar in drinks in my teens. My palate changed and I stopped adding sugar to cereal. If you cannot cope try sweetners. Don't forget you should eventually aim for your waist being no more than half your height. I'm almost there.
I think it is easier to eat healthier in the summer and new potatoes in their skins are not as carby as old potatoes. I like Majorcan new potatoes. One cut into three goes well with a piece of fish and some vegetables.

Oh yum. New potatoes what a good idea. I will see if I can sneak some into the shopping basket on Monday when I go shopping with the Mrs.
