Hi all,
Wondering whether anyone could give me some advice on what to do...
Basically all through the night ive been constantly running the loo and drinking loads but as I was so tired just couldnt even get the energy to check my blood so checked them at 5.45am instead when my alarm went off, the reading was HI, first and foremost does anybody know exactly how high my reading could be??
Anyway, as i am a student nurse, i was doing a long day shift (7.30am to 8.30pm- 13 hours) and within 3 hours of my shift starting i was starting to feel a bit poorly, checked my blood and it was 3.2!! So i obviously was sent home but as you can all imagine i feel dreadful, how should i go about treating myself, should i just pop the walk in and see what they say??
On to the main question, i have a 2 hour driving lesson tomorrow and the thought of feeling like this and doing my lesson is becoming a real stress, would you think i would be well enough to do my lesson or should i cancel it to be safer rather than sorry?? I had to cancel last weeks lesson due to finishing my assignment, so i dont really want to leave a bad impression...
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Xxx

What ever you do, do not drive cancel your lesson. IMHO it would be very irresponsible to even think about getting behind the wheel of a car. Safer for you and everyone else I would have thought.

Why were you sent home when hypo? All you need do is treat it and wait 15 mins before rechecking then carry on as normal.

If your meter said HI it wasn't being friendly :( your reading was over 32 or 33 at the time.

Hope you soon feel better and are on a more even keel.

I was thinking of cancelling but have had family members advise me to do the opposite but of course they don't understand how it feels.

I was sent home because im doing placement on a children's ward and they advised that with what happened this morning and how im feeling that i just need to get some rest, which was very kind of them.

Oh what a cheeky bugger haha, thought it was being friendly! All jokes aside, i bloody feel awful, so im probably going to cancel my lesson, ive been up the wall the past few days with my blood sugars levels so its having a knock on effect on my body!!

Thank you so much for your advice, really appreciate it!!!

Well put it another way if you drive and hypo at the wheel you will have a six month ban before you even pass your test. So is it worth the risk of injuring or even killing someone for the sake of a lesson?

If you were feeling normal you wouldn't even need to ask about your lesson would you? So obviously something is upsetting your diabetes and rational thinking. Have you picked up a bug or something from the children on your ward placement do you think?

Exactly! Thank you, the question was more to just shut certain family members up, who choose not to listen or understand sometimes, which is a right pain!

And not that I know of, but it could be a possibility

Provided your bg levels are back to normal, you get a good nights sleep and feel well in the morning I see no need to cancel the lesson.

You may have caught a bug because there is lots about. Good luck 🙂

I caught a virus and my levels shut up from 5 to 19 within an hour. Could you be brewing something.
I was very rough for a week, and managing the sick day rules was exhausting.

I agree with @Pumper_Sue about driving. If your levels are already all over the place, and you are in any doubt, don’t chance it, and cancel rather than leave it to the last minute.

Life being a T1 ? I keep singing to myself "Things can only get Better" :D. I was in Critical Care before xmas because of a bug. Flat out for 3 days. Thanks to NHS nice staff I am still here. 😉 Good luck.
