I have a uni exam tomorrow. I'm having a home exam and I've been told I can eat. Any ideas what? I don't really want to be injecting too much. I've got a total of 30min break. I intended to spit it every hour. It's in total a 4hour exam. It starts at 10am but I'm due to take my levimer at 11am. Do you think it will be ok to take an hour early? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Hi Dasroots
Good luck with the exam. If you are on MDI you don't need to eat unless there is a risk of going hypo - I've certainly never eaten during an exam and I've been diabetic for 44 years and have had great exam results - not saying that to boast, just saying that not eating during exams has not affected my results. However it is good to test every 1-2 hours and have your hypo treatment with you. With regard to the Levemir it should be fine to take it an hour earlier. Is this an OU exam?

Thanks AJ.

Yes it's an OU exam. Feeling slightly stressed with how much can go wrong. Hypo, asthma trouble.

Try not to worry that's why you've got that amount of exam time in case something goes wrong. Personally I would get my levels to around 7-8 at the beginning of the exam to reduce the chance of a hypo. Which module is the exam for? I studied two arts and humanities modules with the OU three years ago. I'm just about to start a BA Multimedia Journalism degree with the University of Northampton.

I'd have a substantial breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, perhaps some beans. Something like this would easily keep me going without needing much at all through lunchtime, maybe just teas and a biscuit. The fat and protein won't have a big impact on levels, but will keep hunger at bay and little chance of hypos 🙂 Certainly OK to take the levemir an hour earlier.

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you 🙂

Thanks guys. AJ I'm studying health and social care. Think I'll take a trip to a cafe around the corner tomorrow morning get a good breakfast.
