I am on day 3 of taking 1 Metformin. Thankgod, I haven't had the upset tummy, which was one thing I was dreading. So far, I have tolerated it well 🙂

However, my figures are still creeping up, even with cutting out the white bread and the pasta (they seem to be the worst thing for me, making my number rise). Last night I hit 27.7, and I felt pretty awful.

How long will it be before the metformin makes a difference? I know I can't start the byetta until I have been referred to the hospital, which is frustrating me as I just want to feel better than I have been. I have read the byetta pretty much starts to work straightaway..does anyone have any experience of byetta?

Hi Doddy,
sorry to hear your numbers are so high.
I know you have said you have cut out pasta and white bread, so can you tell us what you actually did eat?
If it was lower carb than normaly eaten is there any chance of a misdiagnoses? (Sorry have no idea of your history of diagnoses)

Hi Doddy

Dont be disheartened it takes about 2 weeks on average for the metformin to take effect remember it has to get into your system so give it time x

With regards Byetta I do have expereince i was on it for abit theres a few members on here on it as well, from what i can remember it did start to take effect quicker then the metformin but it was 2 -3 days

I guess it would help if you knew what I had eaten!
I have been having things like Chicken Kiev with new pots and broccoli, Chicken Korma, Shepherds Pie and carrots. I don't eat breakfast, and know that i must start, but even so, my fasting numbers are so high, by the time lunch comes, i have a starting value of around 16-17 some days.

The DSN told me not to change anything I was eating yet. However, from reading on here, I have cut out what I know affects me. I don't enough yet to carb count, or if indeed I need to be.

If high BS is not diabetes, what could it be? My fasting level was 13.3 apparently.
I am sure it's a case of cutting out the things my body doesn't like, but I have what these things are....the day i get my BS below 10 I will be happy!

Was the chicken Korma from a jar? Did you have white rice ,naan etc etc? Two mentions of potatoes there as well.the chicken kievs not to sure as there something I don't like I wonder if the breadcrumbs could be of issue

The korma was a microwave meal. I didn't eat all the rice...
I thought I would be ok with the new pots, but knew the shepherds pie mash might be troublesome.
I did wonder about "processed" chicken...never thought of the breadcrumbs tho!

I am hoping the meds work soon....it's very hard to feed a family of 4 and make allowances for me too....especially when the kids are sooo fussy! I know I will learn as we go along, but I feel like I am canoeing without oars right now!

I just want to stop feeling so awful...now I know the reason behind it, I want it sorted, and I guess I have to learn it's not gonna happen over night

Yeah new pots are ok for me but how about trying sweet potato as a jacket potato with beans ?. I know wat u mean it can be hard when ur cooking for a fussy family

I have never tried baking sweet potato..only ever used it when my kids were babies! Really should try it 🙂
I have today bought some baked beans so I will give them a go too...although aren't they high in sugar??

Fussy kids are driving me insane! I want to try and do meals that are good for me...and I hoping they are therefore healthy for the rest of the family too...I am a hopeless cook so I have a lot to learn!
