Bit late to the party to the forum but been using the site as a good resource. Got diagnosed with Type 2 in late Feb, levels at 115 and a visit to A&E, had my first blood results today they’ve now dropped to 43. That puts me in remission right? Gonna head across to the new thread for next steps, don’t want to mess this up.

Are you on any medication?
Remission is classed as being < 48 for two tests without any glucose lowering medication.

But well done, that's a great achievement! How did you manage it?

Still on meds. So I guess not in remission yet then. Got another appointment in early September so I’ll wait until then and see what the nurse says.

I basically went militant on food and booze. Cut out pretty much any sugar to the best of my knowledge stuck to salads/veg and as low carb as possible anything else and have seriously cut back on beer (the hardest part). I guess it’s worked so all good, A bit bored of the beer bit but gonna stick at it, silver lining is the weight loss, I wasn’t super big in the fist place but lost around 2 1/2 stone and feel a damn site healthier all round.

Similar to my own experience - 83 to 36 in 3 months and 1000mg of Metformin, which was cut to 500mg and I was told last year I could stop it (hba1c still 36!) Weight loss and diet change improved things for me as well!

Beer is an interesting one. I was told to stop drinking it by my GP due to its carb content, but I find it has no effect on me whatsoever. I only have a couple of pints every few weeks, though.

Well done on your terrific progress @Carl B - massive congratulations!

Hope you can find a good ‘maintenance menu’ which is sustainable and enjoyable for you as a long-term way of eating, so that you can stabilise the benefits you have had so far, while not feeling too deprived.

Great to hear you are feeling fitter and healthier too. Often you don’t realise how weary, worn down and lethargic you have been feeling. Erratic and elevated blood glucose levels can be exhausting and are linked with low mood, but this may have come on quite gradually so you may not have noticed until the fog started to lift. Plus the regular checks you get after a diagnosis with diabetes mean that any potential problems may be spotted earlier, and can be sorted out sooner.

Let us know how things go on, and whether your Dr recommends reducing your meds at any point.
