So at work this morning as work place classed as essential quite busy for a tue morning couldn't buy essentials cos we had none so they were buying everything else on bloke in the queue had in his hand a cheese grater? Soooooo important I thought that's really essential

Well if you're in a shop which sells essentials and they also sell less essential items, you might as well pick up something less essential while you're there, if it is useful! Especially if you can’t get what you came for, at least you haven’t had a wasted trip!

One of the local general hardware type shops is open here. A non-trivial part of what they sell is cleaning stuff of various kinds, so on the whole if I were in charge I'd give them a pass. The local supermarket (Tesco) is now quite a bit smaller than it used to be and no longer sells pots and pans and things (it used to have an upstairs which is now a (closed) gym).

Edit: missed my main point which was that it was really quiet, suggesting that people here are taking it seriously. (Or have commuted into central London as they usually do, I guess.)

I think what I was getting at was if we didn't have essentials then don't go strolling around the store like it's just another spring morning cos it ain't 2 older people who were over 70 could hardly walk said getting stuff for the garden incase we're locked down when I said nicely that it all ready had they said oh yes we know? These people are just. Putting there self's and my health and life at risk

grated cheese, goes further than cutting slices with a knife, maybe hes cutting down portion sizes for the family - making his little bit of cheese last as long as possible.

Does shopping for essentials not just mean your normal weekly shop with NO stockpiling of things and no over buying? We just need to get what we actually need ...... and some jelly babies
