A meter is the way forward, at least you can work out which foods are ok and which cause you problems.

Think I've been overloading on carbs. Just went and ordered the SD codefree meter and strips so now I can take more control over my condition. Not realised just how serious this disease is. The doctors haven't really given me any advice on this. Been left to seek out information..

It really is easy to give yourself a severe headache on the subject of carbs.

Your meter will provide you with some guidelines to work with.

There's a few in here who would be good DNs.

Hi, Everything is very confusing..but I have over a period of just two months found that it is Carbs that were making me feel so poorly, since restricting them I feel so much better ! Sleep better, have more energy, my partner says my whole mood is completely different, less grouchy !!! I've lost 13 1/2 pound too, as well as my knees being so much better, which I know is probably because of the weight loss but its all relevant !!!

If you're not already, track your food with something like My Fitness Pal.

I have an awful time with carbs, they put me to sleep. I have not cut them completely out of my diet (because I'm having that bacon and egg sarnie for breakfast on sunday morning thanks 😉 ) but tracking my food helped to give me a bigger picture too. Boring at first but you'll get a routine going eventually. I only eat carbs on days I exercise, I also find that several small meals throughout the day work better for me, but it took me a while to figure this out.

As people have said, it is a very personal thing, one size certainly doesn't fit all.

Things will definitely change once I get the meter and start testing. From what I have read, you test 3 times a day. And if what dawny1958 writes, reducing the amount of carbs in my meals should improve my mood, energy and overall health, as well as some possible weight loss. All that would be a very welcome effect of changing my diet..

Hi All

I just did the Desmond course and recall that we should have no more than 30 - 40 grams of carbs each meal.

I just at 2 Rye Crispbreads at only 6.7 grams of carbs each, a thin spread of soft goats cheese on each, 1 tomato and 4 slices of cucumber. Would you say that is sufficient to have at lunch time alone with a cup of tea with milk and glass of water?

Many thanks for help.

I am type II, controlled with diet and exercise (no diabetes meds at this time)
Hi Jodee. I adore to now miss meals. Now on an insulin pump & really do like it when I miss my dinner at work. From being a kid I had to eat 50g of carbs 4 times a day. My parents could not get me to eat & I used to have 6pts of milk a day for the carbs. Well done for doing the Desmond 🙂
