I like to walk, at present I take some nuts and raison plus an apple, however coming back from a walk on xmas day, I tested 4.1.

Should I consider having something like an energy or muesli bar whilst on the walk.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Cheers

As you are not on medication it's unlikely that your levels would drop much lower, so a 4.1 is a good reading 🙂 Certainly, if you wanted you could have a muesli bar I would think - the best thing to do would be to try one and see what effect it has on your levels (measuring before and an hour after). Some bars are better than others, so try to go for ones that have the least sugar, and around 15g carbs.

I forgot to add I am on metformin 500mg x1

Muesli bars (in plastic wrappers) have great properties as emergency food - ie food you can leave for months (years, even) in pockets of rucksacks, cagoules etc, and still be edible when you finally eat them. You can't do that with an apple or chocolate or an open packet of peanuts!

But you might get hungry!
