Been moved onto these drugs , why do people not like theses group of drugs , are they dangerous and is there a lot of controversy about them

No, they are not dangerous, otherwise they wouldn’t be prescribed. They can produce side effects because they work by getting the kidneys to excrete excess glucose from the blood, so all that glucose appears in your urine. You need to make sure you are well hydrated to flush the system through. With the urine being sweeter, bladder infections can occur, but this is commoner in women. Watch out for any redness or signs of irritation under the foreskin.

Apart from that, the only significant risk is hypoglycaemia, particularly if you are already on medication with that effect. Metformin doesn’t matter.

All the nightmare effects you can find on the internet are exceptionally rare. Thousands of folk take this without any problem.

Oh, nearly forgot. Don’t drink alcohol, or at least very little. It can worsen The hypoglycaemic effect of the tablets.

I take Canagliflozin - which I believe are from the same family, (I could be wrong though), I have had one UTI since being on them, but as Mikey says these types of infection are more common in women anyway. Like you I was skeptical about taking them because of everything I had read about them on the internet, but they have certainly helped bring my HBA1C down.

Hi, I take these, they work really well for me, Absolutely had a big effect in lowering my bg, I am male and I have had zero issues with infections (touch wood) they also havent caused any hypos, even alongside humalin, for me they have been a very good drug.
