My mum, (type 2 diabetic, in her seventies, independent and lives alone) is in hospital after a fall recently. We're hoping to get her home soon and would like to set her up with an emergency alarm. Does any have recommendations and advice?

I used one run by the council, which was around £15 a month around 4 years ago, had mom press the button by accident a few times and the call centre were ok with accidental presses and it proved the system worked as they always called me to check everything was alright.

Yup, my mum had one on a lanyard, supplied by the council after my Dad went demented. Worked just fine, and, as pav said, they didn’t mind accidental presses.

Don’t get involved with private companies unless you absolutely have to.

My husband has one for when I can't be in the house. It came from the local council via the hospital. We have only used it "for real" once when he collapsed and I could not get him up. Ambulance etc was there is under 10 minutes, amazing. His costs about £4 per week but worth every penny. I have to do a check each week to make sure that it is working. Suggest you ask at your surgery. 🙂

Sadly my mum had two more falls just after the Careline was fitted and shortly after was readmitted to hospital. After two months of struggling with various infections and being diagnosed with the latter stages of of vascular dementia, as a result of a stroke two years ago, she passed away on April 17th. My heart is so sad and as a diabetic myself I am shaken to the core.

You have my sympathies Berenice.

I'm so sorry for your loss @Berenice

I lost my mum very quickly too in mid July 2015 to cancer: diagnosed first day of June 2015 & passed 6 weeks later!

With all my heartfelt condolences,

Lanny
