Five months after breaking ground on a $140 million insulin plant at its Harding Street campus, Eli Lilly and Co. has decided that the plant needs to be a lot bigger.
The drug maker will spend $180 million more to double the plant?s capacity to fill cartridges for insulin-injecting pens.
Lilly will officially make the announcement today that it is broadening its vision for the plant, which will be the first U.S. site to fill cartridges in the increasingly popular pens that diabetics use to inject insulin to control their blood sugar.
