Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am new to this, I have type 2 diabetes I was diagnosed over 10 years
ago. Hello to everyone, my doctor has recently started me on this
new non insulin injection called Byetta - Exenatide which I have
to inject twice a day, but for some reading before taking this new medication
and whilst on it, I have been feeling very nauseating and having a headache as well. also last month I had keyhole op to remove my gall
bladder and a hernia repair as well, has anyone else had these
type of symptons, also I take four metform capsules a day as well.
is there anyone else that gets these symptons/

hi there and welcome to the forum myself along with 3-4 others also take byetta and theres a thread we all use called byetta babes which is usually to chat about byetta you can find it here http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=9445 we are on there most days so dont feel alone , i cant relate to the side effects as ive been so lucky to avoid them all but i know some of the others have suffered so should be able to help you out better then i can hun xx

Hi Elaineanne, welcome to the forum 🙂 As Steffie says, we have several members with experience of Byetta. From what I have read, the side effects do subside in time in most cases, and it is a case of learning the best time to inject and also may depend on the amount of carbs you eat at each meal which may help reduce the nausea. People have reported some wonderful improvements in blood sugar levels, and have also said it has helped them lose weight.

Hi elaineann. Along with Steffie and a few others I am a Byetta Babe too! I had a few unpleasant side effects to begin with but nearly 5 months in I don't get many problems with it now. I have lost 16kg and BG levels are right down with an Hba1c of 6. It used to be 10.5. So i'm really pleased with it. One thing I have noticed though is now that the bloating and sickness have passed I can eat more and that means a much slower weight loss these days.
