According to some new research the health benefits of the humble egg might not be all they're cracked up to be as research suggests that excess egg consumption can increase your risk of diabetes.

Really...???

So, the Chinese are eating more eggs, and seeing higher levels of Diabetes, But, (and it's a big but) they have been Westernising their diets generally and eating more processed food, etc. So how do they know it’s down to the eggs?

This country demonised eggs and it had a detrimental effect on the health and diet of a generation.
All I know is that when I eat lot of eggs my blood sugars normalise and when I didn't eat them - that was when I developed diabetes.

I wonder if a similar mechanism is acting in China to the one that worked here. Eggs are simple and not easy to make a massive profit from - if people can be persuaded to eat breakfast cereals and other processed breakfast foods instead then there is big profit to be made. It is beneficial to manufacturers to encourage people to avoid simple foods and go for brightly coloured packs of processed rubbish.

Also, obesity rates have increased hugely (tripled or something like that) over the period.

Presumably the researchers have tried to control for this kind of thing, but the PR doesn't give any insight.

Come from family of big egg eaters, breakfast of old mans choice in combination of ways, no type 2.

On the other hand, I've always hated eggs, but I still got T2D.

Proof that eggs don't cause it 🙂

I must admit that this is the sort of "science" which absolutely does my head in.
They show a correlation between two things (eggs and type 2 diabetes) but don't do the work to prove a causal link.
As such, this research is as utterly worthless as previous research from 2015 (I think) which said that eggs can prevent type 2 diabetes and other research which says they make no difference.

We've seen the same nonsense with red wine being linked to cancer and then being linked to not getting cancer. Then the same for a glass of beer every day. Then some other nonsense about being taller giving you a higher risk of cancer.

It's all complete garbage and as a scientist (well ex-scientist now I suppose given that I am not well enough to be able to work at the moment) it infuriates me to see the discipline trashed by this type of rubbish.

Right. Rant over. Lunch time. :D

Hmmm water bad for you if drank in excess lol.
Water is certainly bad. After all, 100% of all deaths by drowning involve water.

Good thing to eat, washed down with loads of water to drink, if eating the eggs makes you a bit constipated though!
