Having not eaten eggs for years, I have managed to work them back into my limited diet, in efforts to find things that don't spike my BS.

A simple egg salad sandwich has a very positive effect on my readings, so my question is, as above.

I'm looking to have a sandwich at work every day - so is 5 a week too many ? I've seen somewhere that 3 a week is enough....but if I'm having very good results with this, would 5 be a problem ? What, if any, negative effects ?

Any input appreciated !

Well I have a egg 4 times a week and have seen no ill effects, well maybe accept a poignent smell following me around.

The BHF's point that dietary cholesterol doesn't raise blood cholesterol is right, but there is also something in their statement which is utterly wrong.

we now know that much of the excess cholesterol in our bodies is actually produced by eating too much saturated fat rather than eating too much cholesterol.

No we don't. There has never been a scientific study that has proved a link between saturated fat consumption and heart disease caused by high cholesterol levels. What IS known (and is learnt by all doctors in the first year of their medical training) is that blood cholesterol comes from what is synthesised in the liver, and that insulin stimulates the liver to produce more cholesterol. Therefore the actual dietary cause of increased cholesterol is caused by eating too many carbohydrates, NOT fat. And the advice pushing people towards eating low-fat foods (which typically are either naturally high in carbs or have carbs added to make them more palatable) is an almost perfect diet for RAISING cholesterol.

Eggs are a funny one, I remember when they were practically demonised a few years back and now "they" are saying that they are perfectly fine. My dietician said that its fine to eat 1 - 2 per day ?!? Seems excessive to me - I have about 4 max 5 a week. Also I find that when I have a scrambled egg with a slice of toast (ie adding the protein to the carb) it slows down the release of glucose so much easier to manage. But that might be just me , I don't know.
I think that if they work for you, and as long as you're not consuming ridiculous amounts then you should be fine. Like most things in life, balance is key 🙂

As for me, if Christmas goes to plan Wills and I will be having Scrambled Eggs Deluxe (with added double cream and smoked salmon) for Christmas breakfast. 🙂

Thanks for all the input. I don't think I need to be too concerned then...having found something so positive, on the lunch @ work front, keen to continue & have it every day !

Thanks again, Helen

Used to love that addvert "How do you like your eggs ? Fried or Boiled ? 🙂Enjoy
