I've been having regular palpitations (at least daily) and the feeling is horrible, saw my gp this week and I've been referred for an ECG and bloods to be done on Monday.

I know palpitations can be 'normal' and have had them on and off for years but never as frequent as this. I've been told to cut all caffeine even though I only have 2 cups of tea each day so have switched to decaff, doesn't taste great but if it helps ...

I've had countless ECGs when I was first diagnosed - I hope that everything goes well for you and they can get to the problem and sort things out for you 🙂

Hope everything is ok for you and the ecg is clear.

I've had a few this year while having the gallbladder problems. I made the mistake of saying I kept getting a crushing sensation in my chest and within minutes I was hooked up, it was put down to the stress.

having an ecg is nothing to worry about i have had them done and its over in minutes just make sure they take all the little sticky patches off when they have finished. take care and let us know how you get on

All kinds of things can cause palaptations so it is always good to get things checked. It is probably something very simple causing it, but stress and worry will make it feel worse. I hope you feel better soon and getthe all clear.

Just wondering if you have many hypos and if so, do you treat them with Coke, because of course there is caffeine in there too. I had dreadful palpitations for a while and I do confess to being a big coffee addict back then. I got onto decaf, then decaf tea, but still had them. I then realised the diet Coke I was drinking in place of alcohol (another culprit for causing me palpitations) had it in too, so cut that out and it seemed to resolve pretty much instantly. Alcohol still brings them on, so I rarely drink now, but I can chance the odd 'normal' coffee now with no problems.

ECG went fine, no results as yet but as you say, over within minutes. Had 4 bottles of blood taken today and bled a lot afterwards. All done though, hope the blood results come back ok this time.

Sorry, forgot to say, I don't drink coke but thanks for the thought. Glad your palpitations resolved 🙂

Just to add, a typical ECG only records heart rate & pattern for a few seconds, so unless a palpitation shows up in those few seconds, the trace won't tell much. So, the next thing that might be considered is getting you to wear a monitor for 24 hours at home, then return to disconnect and download the data for a doctor / specialist nurse to analyse / interpret.
