I've always had some issues with eating out due to panic attacks but now I'm type 2 I'm finding it a nightmare, especially in holiday when service is usually very slow. I try to eat something around 5 to keep me going but usually before the meal comes I'm feeling absolutely lousy for 20 mins half an hour.... So for me it's an ordeal rather than enjoyable, and also because finding food to suit is also difficult.
Family have absolutely no understanding of this, they love to eat out.

Could you not keep some no carb snacks about your person for these occasions? Some nuts or a bit of cheese, eg babybels come wrapped - carrot sticks etc.

If you are actually going hypo (3.3 or under) then you need carbs.

TW's ideas are good for if you're already out and about and go for a meal while you're out.

When I'm home-based, I usually have something high protein like crustless quiche or a roast chicken drumstick before I go out. That keeps me going until the food is served. An added benefit is that I have more self-control because I'm not starving when I look at the menu!
