Hi I was diagnosed 5th March with type 2 , but on January 16 th I started to eat a healthy diet and lost 10lbs, this was due to a high potassium level and ended in A&E with potential heart attack turned out to be just a spike and was allowed home .
Since then as I say I’ve gone on a low carb low fat diet as I am 4 st overweight , since the 5 th March I havnt lost an ounce i’m devastated and depressed with lack of loss of weight , what can I be doing wrong I thought weight would drop of me

Hi Anitram thanks for replying so quickly, pretty low I would say on the carbos, no bread, cereals, biscuits , paste rice just about as low as I can get , I’ve had no advice from my doctor it’s as if she thinks I know what I should be eating , but I don’t ! I am not on any medication for type 2 I am hoping to reverse it myself by diet alone , but no weight is coming off

Hi @Outofsorts My weight loss is far from a straight line. I find I loose weight then plateau then loose weight etc. I was 15st 4lbs + or - a 1lb for several weeks in February then I dropped to 14st 9lbs. Then 14st 10lbs + or - minus a pound for the last couple of weeks. Although the scales did show 14st 8 this morning 🙂

No I don’t , I assumed I just had to cut out carbs I wasn’t told it had to be under a certain amount , so I havnt counted them think I’m floundering, bit cheesed off as to how I’ve been left to get on with it by being given a few websites to look at and left me to it

Hi @Outofsorts - I hear ya. What's your typical daily meal plan - so we know what you are currently doing, and perhaps we can help. Also, do you have some kitchen scales?

Once you are getting normal numbers by eating a low carb diet then you should see your weight reduce - with any luck. Remember it is the blood glucose levels which are going to be represented in your Hba1c, not your weight.

The book or app Carbs and Cals is a good guide alongside some digital kitchen scales and the information on the packet of bought foods. Beware of the traffic light information as this only shows Sugars not total carbohydrates which is hat you need to be looking for. You might find keeping a food diary in a note book or spreadsheet if you are so inclined would help you to work out just what you are having, be brutally honest and jot everything down. You can then see where the problem areas are carb wise and make some substitutes or reduce portion size. Though that is the burning question, What is a portion?

Thanks for trying to get my head round this
23/3/ 21 no breakfast just a coffee with semi skimmed milk no sugar and 1pt of water
Lunch homemade butternut squash soup with a few herbs drop of single cream and 2 ryvitas with butter and a 5 ozs semi skimmed milk
Mid afternoon latte
Tea 2 slices of ham, lettuce, onion, half a tomato a large one, piece of cheddar about the size of a matchbox, tablespoon of chutney, small sliced apple 1 pt of water

24/3/21 no breakfast coffee with milk, 1 pint of water
Lunch remains of soup from yesterday and 2 ryvitas with butter 5ozs of semi skimmed milk
Mid afternoon latte
Tea Sirloin steak, lettuce , half a tomato , onion , pepper sauce 1 pt of water

I read numbers for this HbA1c that seem to be in the 90s or so when I look at my doctors notes it just gives 55 mol which don’t understand I know the number 48 and above is high and that 55 is type 2 diagnosed
Ellsbells I do have digital scales yes
Leading lights I will have a look for that book might save my soul lol
Thanks everybody

That's looking pretty good to me, carbwise - how have your blood sugars been responding to it? Are you testing st home?.

One thing I have to remind myself is to control portion sizes. What I thought was a normal soup size was actually twice the amount I should have been having! I swapped to a smaller bowl to solve that problem! Now I'm shrinking the sizes of my steaks...I like food too much!

Hello and welcome. 🙂
