Anyone watch this? I know that there wouldn't be much of a programme if the families only had one or two problems with their food purchases, but are these people for real? 😱 Family of 4 spending £16,000 a year on food? 😱 I probably spend around £1000-£1200 a year on myself.

I've seen this before. It's quite unbelievable what some people spend on food. And they probably throw half of it away.

It always amazes me that families on a budget ( and they were obviously aware of how much money they'd got, as they were saying they couldn't afford a holiday) show utter amazement when they're told how much they spend on food. Don't they notice/add up the bills? Or do they just think, that's how much food costs, end of, stop engaging brain!

I think that's it, Robin. Ive seen people shopping who just put stuff in their trolley without a second thought. Maybe I'm a bit careful with my money as l don't have a lot of it & im always checking prices. I would say that our average weekly shop is about £70 & thats me, my wife & the cats.

We use the scan as you shop thing in tesco when we do our shopping you can see exactly what you are spending. I've also got a tesco top up shopping card (as i get 5% off through a scheme through work) which I top us each month to cover the shopping.

The scan as you shop thing is excellent as you can see exactly how much your shopping is going to be. The only problem is my OH won't let me have a go! Boys and their toys!

Didn't watch it but that's sounds ridiculous. Where the hell are they shopping - Fortnum and Mason? We are a family of four and spend a lot less than half that a year. They must be buying stuff and chucking a lot of it away or are the size of house sides. They need to get their sens down to Aldi and pick up the reduced stuff from the big supermarkets.

A lot of it was them buying small packs of microwave rice all the time, instead of a big bag of cook it yourself. And loads of ready meals, of course. Oh, and she had a bottle of wine in the fridge permanently for ( mostly ) cooking purposes, which cost £10 a bottle - and when they put everything in plain wrappers, she couldn't even tell that it was one of the things where they hadn't substituted something cheaper! And they weren't unintelligent, both parents were teachers, and both daughters heading off to Uni soon. One daughter was a disability swimmer, hoping to get to the Paralympics.
