anyone waiting or had to wait on reply from dvla ref driving licence, i spoke to them 16 march thought i would have heard something

They received mine application for renewal on 6th January and i've rang every month since to keep being told the same things ie "its in the queue to be reviewed/i can't tell you how long it will be/there is a pandemic you know/you rang last month and spoke to my colleague, well i'm telling you the same thing/there are thousands like you waiting" and other reasons, all in all not helpful! I've been driving under Section 88 since February but getting nowhere with the dvla at all. Very frustrating.

its frustrating to say the least, you would think in this day and age there would be a better system, its just more pressure we could do without

Oh gawd - my renewal notice came from them yesterday so I'll try doing it online as nowt's changed except being 3 years older. No online option 3 years ago as we always had to submit the application and DIAB1 in paper format even when nothing had changed.

It might be OK, Jenny, if no change other than age. OH (non-D but coming up to 76) did his 3 year renewal a couple of weeks back, and it arrived today.

My non-D OH was 73 in January, hence ditto but as he's kept his C1 (ie 3500kgs +) he had to have an actual medical and submit that too - fortunately NP (even though DVLA had to send it back cos Doc hadn't put his BP measurement on the form!) so renewed OK but by post as you still can't submit an actual medical any other way. Hardly surprising they're giving priority to such renewals to vocational drivers at present really I daresay - but intensely frustrating for those hitting snags for whatever reason.

Seems to be if you can do it online then its quicker. I had to do a postal one because they also sent forms for another condition (which i don't have) and they told me that because they had sent them i had to complete showing N/A and providing proof i didnt have the condition.

I am really frustrated for you both @freesia and @niall :(

I submitted paper renewal and got my licence back in a less than a month I think.

I would have done online, but they wanted you to jump through 3rd party hoops to establish your ID (rather than, say, accepting your .gov HMRC account or whatever) so I stuck with the paper forms.

Seems outrageous that some are processed is such a timely way, while others get snagged in a huge backlog/industrial action black hole :(

Looks like we'll be waiting even longer. They went on strike earlier this month and are having another 4 day strike next month!! At this rate Section 88 will run out and i'll have to apply from the beginning again. Ridiculous!! So many people have continued working through this pandemic and put themselves on the front line but the dvla refuse to go BACK to work. So many other people would lose their jobs if they refused to go back.

You can do it online? Wow that’s great mines due this July and have booked an eye test today getting prepared. Be great if you can do it online, thanks.

Yep - did it ! You have to register with a verify thingy to begin with and I got the cgoice of two - one was The Post Office and I forget what the other one was, never heard of them anyway, so I picked the PO as I thought I might remember it, as the first Q when I went to the website address to renew, was have you already registered with a verify provider? so they send you a numerical code by text on your mobile phone that you have to type into the dvla renewal site and voila really Austen. Had an email back to say DVLA had received it and would deal with it, but could take them up to 21 days.

That’s just two step verification, done in a cack handed way. That’s how I buy stuff from Amazon now, after my Password had been nicked, but they send me the code. I know for a fact the DVLA computers can’t do that sort of thing, so they need a partner like the PO.

Soooo...after reading that the DVLA are planning to strike over not going back to work, i got really annoyed. How much longer is it going to take to clear the backlog? I emailed my MP saying as its a Government dept what are they doing to sort out the mess down there, and as the country is beginning to go back to work, why were the DVLA not? Just had an email back to say he will be looking into it. Hopefully he'll get an answer when i can't.

Got my renewal notification yesterday (due July) and applied online straightaway. Email acknowledgement by return. Now waiting .....

I'm still waiting for mine, after the automatic email acknowledgement, so we can wait together ........

I did mine online this week. I’m not tech savvy, so it was a bit of a challenge but I got there in the end! Good luck, Jenny. :D

Wish i'd been able to do mine online but i have to send letter confirming i don't have another condition they sent me forms for and i can't do that online.

My renewed driving licence has just dropped through our letterbox half an hour ago.

The DVLA powers that be insisted on people going into football field sized offices with little ventilation to sit within a foot of their neighbours - they were dropping like flies from covid whilst those giving the orders sat in their air conditioned single person offices.
Back in the early 1970s I caught 'flu' when I went up to London on a training course, but was told I had to go into work by my group supervisor at HMIT - I was young and fit, so I coped, but in a week I was the only person working on my floor, and a couple of the older ones never did come back to work.
That's the civil service for you -

@trophywench i'm glad yours came back so quick. They've had my application now for 4 months and its still in a queue to be reviewed! I've just rang to chase it up again and got a message saying they are on strike!!
