Hi
I had my licence revoked after a poor field vision test. The DVLA suggested I pay for private eye tests, which I done at 3 different Specsavers and all results looked promising so I submitted to the DVLA. They reply stated I could 're apply for my licence after completing a number of forms. 3 weeks later I was asked to undergo another field vision test at one of the Specsavers off their forms. This I did on a Henson 112 point machine with good results. Yet 3 days later the DVLA sent me a letter saying the test was not carried out to their requerments, i contacted this branch and they said that they test 1000's of dvla tests there and never had a problem, and now the want me to go for another field vision test at a different optition with a 120 point test.
Can anyone clarify that for a group 1 licence all they usually require is a 112 point test and the 120 point test is for group 2 licences.
I contacted the DVLA 3 times last Friday and each time give me vague different answers
Has anyone else had this same problem?
Thanks in advance Kevin

Hi Kevjon, welcome to the forum 🙂 I don't have an answer to your question, but giving this a <bump> in case others who can have missed it. Very frstrating when these organisations don't seem to know their own rules! :(

It might be worth contacting the Diabetes UK Helpline to see if they can advise:

Personally I think the DVLA have their own agender.
There website states no need to inform if only had laser to one eye yet the diabetes form is demanding to know now if you have had laser to one eye and if so had you informed them!

I sent my forms off the other week to inform the I has MS so I then gets a form back telling me I had informed them of eyesight treatment. Thus they wanted me to fill in this form and send it back to them.

I hadn't told them of any treatment to my eye just filled in the box to say I had seen DSN, neurologist, and had retinopathy screening.(As all diabetics have)
Yet now they ae convinced I have undeclared retinopathy gawd knows why.

I spent an hour the other evening trying to notify DVLA that I am on insulin and that bloody website drove me bonkers. The sight kept throwing out my bank card details and I must of input them a hundred ways: with spaces, without spaces, using hyphen in my surname, not using hyphen, using space instead of hyphen in surname and you’ve guessed it, not using space in surname instead of hyphen. I even typed it all out in capital letters to see if it made any difference- NOPE! Lol. Gave up in the end

Why did you need your bank card details? I didn’t think there was a fee for notifying them about medical conditions. Try downloading a form from the Gov.Uk website and mailing it instead.

Are you sure that wasn’t a fake website? They do exist, and the DVLA would never ask for your credit or debit card details. You must check with your bank that there’s been no unusual card activity, and you may have to cancel the card.

Absolutely agree Mike. This sounds highly suspicious to me and I’d be onto the Bank pronto!

I`m afraid @Elaine B-S is correct when trying to inform DVLA through the website. They send you to another website to gather info and you have a choice of six options of companies to collect this info. These include Experian, Post office, Royal mail etc. They ask for all your details including credit cards, passport number driving licence etc. etc. Its very invasive but it is a genuine site and is very secure, I went along with it but it would not accept my passport or debit card details, I have since changed all my cards as being compromised and have informed the passport office to this effect. I have deleted all the info and had a email to confirm this also my access code is no longer acceptable, I phoned DVLA who could not give me any info regarding this issue. I told them I want to make them aware of my condition, no problem sorted in 5 minutes paper work sent filled in gave me a medical licence that was the end of it. My advice is forget the website contact DVLA directly by phone.

Thanks for info, will go to link provided by Robin and pop it in the post. My heart nearly stopped beating when MikeyB and Amigo suggested it may be a fake site and bank details being requested for fraud activity.!

I think you are in safe hands, do not be over concerned, regards.

It's what used to be the 'Government Gateway', it's necessary to re-register to now get into anything done on-line with DVLA. I picked the Post Office for mine, but it wouldn't accept whatever I wanted it to. I rang the Help Line and they said to go back onto the site and start again, choosing one of the others. I said but it asked you if you've registered or tried to register before which obviously I have but if I say Yes, I can't really get any further. So they said to answer No.

The whole premise is ridiculous - to submit a form which relies absolutely on ME telling the truth, the only way to start off is by deliberately LYING.

Hey ho!

Hello Jenny aka Trophywrench, I rang the helpline and was told lie about the info they asked, e.g. passport number credit card details etc. So after thinking about it, approx. 1.15 nano seconds less vat decided it wasn't for me and it never will be, don`t know what else to say about it other than welcome to China.

The good old dog and bone. Always best to speak to someone. Remember to take their name for future reference.
