Good morning,

just filling in my forms for DVLA as I have started insulin therapy last week
is there anything else I need to do apart from filling the forms ?

thanks
Lanzlady

Just make sure you tick the right boxes a wrong tick is a loss of licence. There's a guide posted as a sticky to follow.
Do let your ins company know and I suspect you will also need 3 mths of bs results as well at some point.

Thanks Sue I will carefully look over the forms

Apart from taking care in filling in the form, be aware that you will get a 3yr restricted licence and be reduced to bike (if you have it), car and car + trailer only and you will have trouble getting any of it back without jumping through hoops. Never been asked for meter readings, think that's only for van/lorry (class C and D).

Yes received my 3 year restricted licence on Saturday just about to fill the form in
after I go and get my photograph... Why will I have to jump through hoops if it is kept under control ? How did you manage to come off insulin Vicsetter?

Thanks

I discussed the fact that my insulin dosage was increasing without any decrease in BG and I felt I was using too much and I couldn't lose any weight, in fact I was putting it on (side effect of insulin). He agreed to put me back on metformin and within a couple of months I did without the insulin. However once DVLA remove a class off your licence (C1 and D1) then you have to fill in another for, get your GP to fill in a form (payment required) and renew your licence every year.

If you only have a car licence then you should be OK, however I sent off my licence for renewal on 7th May and am still waiting for it to come back from the medical team.

So Lanzlady - what are YOU doing about your BG? Have you for instance cut down on carbohydrates ?

60 units am and 60 units pm + victoza 1.2.
now on victoza 1.2 and 2g metformin

Just phone DVLA, because I'm renewing for a full licence and not a 3yr, they are treating it as a new application and I was told that means your application queues and takes 8wks to process (thats not a queue!), so I've got another 2 weeks to go (they recon they received it on 2th May (sent on 7th)).

What????

I beg your pardon how dare you speak to anyone like that and shouting at the same time... I joined this forum for answers not a dressing down from
you trophywench... Im afraid I will not be discussing anymore with you what I am doing about my BG ...... nought to do with you with that tone of voice ....I would call you a bully in my terms ...no need for abrupt answers like you posted on my other comment about keys.. or in this case its a question from you... we are all on this forum for one thing 🙂

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. It does sound rather short. I don't recall a post about keys, I'm sorry.

The thing about diabetes is though, the doctors can only provide the prescriptions for the pills, the insulin - whatever it is we need to treat our condition.

But it is us that actually has to treat our condition every day! Not the doctors, nurses or anyone else employed by the NHS.

So for this one, whether it's T1, T2, LADA, MODY, pre-diabetes, Gestational - the diet and exercise part of the treatment is in our own hands - and of course importantly, the dosage of insulin we take, if we use insulin.

Right - done a Search and found they 'Keys' thread - and I understand now.

I'm lazy I'm afraid, plus I don't touch-type so when I want to stress a word on a forum post (and I make shedloads a day on both diabetes forums I infest) instead of highlighting a word and emboldening it which takes longer - I'll often just put the word in Caps.

I don't really bite.
