My son has been trying to renew his licence since Aug 2020, the telephone lines/ emails are ignored, sent recorded delivery letters April/ May this year - ignored , he has mild diabetic retinopathy but 20/ 20 vision, Specsavers - who have been clueless regarding DVLA procedures have passed him fit to drive. Now 11 months on going, has anyone else had this length of delay, it is mind- boggling

My goodness, sorry to read of your sons difficulties renewing his driving licence. Hope DVLC respond soon. My driving licence is due for renewal ~ I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks, I hope you are more successful, they have issued general guidence stating you can drive for 12 months if your licence is being reviewed under certain conditions but frankly we have no trust in this at all.

There was another thread on the subject of DVLA delays (I’ll try and find it in a minute) and a couple of people said their problems were only sorted out after they wrote to their MP, so maybe you should try that too.
This was the thread I was thinking of, post 37 onwards is particularly relevant.

Bizarrely( 10 hours after I post the issue on here ) son has just had telephone call off DVLA, his licence has been renewed and is on its way , hope everyone else in same situation now gets their issue resolved ASAP.

Glad to hear this @Jacqs96

There have been lots of problems first with Covid restrictions, then with the backlog, and more recently with strike action :(

Good to hear your sons driving licence issue is resolved......and thank you Jacqs9, apprec.
I've tried several times to renew my driving licence on line but not having much luck. They ask for my 16 digit number but when I add that to the form it keeps saying it's not the right number!! Grrr! Its the only 16 digit number number on my driving licence so I don't understand what the problem is. I'll keep trying.

I’m still waiting on my renewal. Sent the renewal papers away in February I think as expired in April. I’m on a 3 year licence due to sleep apnoea (though about to start insulin so need to inform about that too) and I can’t get through on the phone as always engaged. Tells you to email but you get an automatic email back saying they can’t give you an update on where your renewal is at but that you can still drive as long as there has been no worsening of your condition. I checked the information on this to make sure I do fit the criteria. Don’t know if will take longer to renew with me notifying them I’m starting insulin. Good to know though they are getting back to people.

I'm watching this thread with interest. I just got the papers to renew my licence, and it can't be done online as I also have glaucoma. So I've filled in the forms and am sending them, to be signed for, so I know they've got it. I run out at the end of August, so I'll keep checking.
