Hi, I’m a 51 year old male with reasonable control of my sugar levels. This year I’ve applied to renew my license and DVLA have requested I go through a medical examination with my GP. I’ve never had a severe hypo and get plenty of symptoms when I have low blood sugar levels. I test regularly when I’m driving and always keep lucozade in the car or glucose tablets. Can anyone let me know what the medical exam entails though as I’m still worried? Btw I also had an eye test two months ago and no problems found. Thank you

I wonder if you have been called in due to not seeing a GP (due to covid)? I bet that's happened to a lot of people this time round. No idea what you will be asked though.

Have to say I've never heard of them doing that. I don't think the online renewal forms even ask you the last time you saw your GP. I certainly haven't seen mine since 2019 and if I did I shouldn't think it would have been re diabetes, though the GP surgery does do my toe tickling and BP anything else re D I use the hospital D clinic.

Well that's fine as long as you have seen someone within x amount of time 🙂 Sometimes you are called in due to a wrong answer on the form. (Wrong in their eyes)

Hi, thanks for your reply. My GP surgery has called to say that my Dr can do the medical over the phone so it sounds more like a formality than anything. Fingers crossed anyway! x

Let's hope it is a formality and all proceeds okay.
