DVLA Medical renewal turnaround currently?

Hi there

Has anyone renewed lately? Just wondering how long it took? Especially interested if you had to go for a Specsavers eye test as part of the renewal too.

I know they are striking this week, so expect that will add a little bit of time on.

I applied online in October.
I have no additional conditions to take into consideration and my hypo awareness is good.

My replacement license arrived 6 days after I submitted the application.
There was no requirement for me to do a Specsaver test.

I waited 9mths for the return of my licence on medical grounds even though DVLA contacted no body at all regarding my fitness to drive.
You can still drive though as long as no medical reason not too.

Unfortuantely you can only drive in the UK. I urgently require my licence back as I'm off abroad in May, I have heard nothing since I posted it off in December. This is a 1 year licence as I drive up to 7.5ton

During covid my licence took 9 months to come through. I could drive under Section 88 for 12 months as long as my GP said ok. I had a quick phone call with him when he asked me a few questions then put it on my records that he'd ok'd it. I assume the Section 88 still stands but it might be worth checking to see if there are any restrictions for you.
