So I have been trying since Imogen was a few months old (she's 3 at the end of March!) to get my licence back.

I did all the wanted to last year. Had the doctor appointments, got the all clear and left it in my "capable" GP's hands to send off the letter saying YES, I can drive.

DVLA told me it had to reach them by the end of July 2013. Fine, it seemed. I had the appointment mid July. I didn't think much of it as I know they can have a massive backlog of licences to approve so kept waiting patiently. I rang them 2 days ago to find out why nothing had been sent back to me.

Turns out my GP didn't send the letters/forms off in time for me to get it back. DVLA received the letters on 14th August!! Now, considering my appointment had been mid July, I am now questioning why the forms arrived so late. It means I still don't have my licence, I have to re-apply (AGAIN!) and potentially wait another obscure amount of time for it.

Fed up doesn't even cut it. I just hope my consultant and GP approve because I've had to cancel alot of appointments due to Imogen's Dad messing me around with contact, Imogen being ill and so on. Here's to starting another long, drawn out process to get my little bit of pink plastic back and the freedom to drive!

Hi Laura, give your GP surgery a ring and ask them what date the DVLA forms were sent back by your GP. It could be that dvla have messed up and not your GP.

Laura22 - I have no knowledge whether this would work, but it strikes me as the sort of case that Diabetes UK should take on as advocacy for you and as example of what DVLA / GP in/action / delay means to people with diabetes in real life.

If I were you, I'd phone Diabetes UK Careline on Monday, and ask for their help / advice / support.
