Hi all,
My doctor tells me i can only have enough test strips for two blood tests a week but the DVLA say I should test before I drive, mmmmmmmmmm.
I drive 7.5 tonne vans so testing is a good idear so I have to buy the extra strips myself.

A e-mail I have from the department of health states I should keep on at my doctor for more strips or go to the Primary Care Trust.

my understanding was that GP surgeries have different policies on this as it depends on funding. Could this not be taken up with your GP. What is the situation if you were on Byeta do you know?

This is crazy. You should test before you start out, then every 1.5 - 2 hours.
There is such lack of liaison between government departments/agencies that the key factor seems to be finance rather than that much abused term "common sense"
Many of these GP practice groups receive funding to pay for all the running of their group and the less they spend on scripts the more they have for other bits and bobs which have no direct effect on primary care. Sadly, T2 has received such bad media coverage that too many GPs and much of the public see it as a self inflicted problem.

Hi I my doctor will give me unlimited strips I also drive for a living and test myself about 4 time a day. I think you should make the point that it could be a road safety issue, but be careful with DVLA there is a real debate going on about diabetes, Did you see last weeks Commercial Motor magazine there was a two page article about Diabetes and vocational driving licences. Kind regards Chris

hi tez are you diet controlled only then ?

do the dvla just have a blanket cover on the things diabetics have to do to hold a license??

if so how would a type 2 diet controlled be able to drive due to them not getting a testing kit?? sounds wrong to me

hi tez are you diet controlled only then ?

I'm on Metformin tablets now. One twice a day. Blood Glucose levels have dropped to between 4 and 7 thanks to regular testing, self discipline, some exercise and healthier eating. I feel a lot better than I did two months (before diagnosis) ago.
