I went for a duplex scan on my legs two weeks ago and got a letter today saying that the scan had shown what they had expected, that the artery walls had thickened and there was calcification, which was worse in the small veins.I have spoke to my Dr about this and he said that the bigger veins can be cleaned easily but the small ones are to small to cut open and stitched back up again.Im really quite annoyed because for twenty one years(thats when i first started having calf pains) the specialists have been telling me i have neuropathy and nothing could help this. Now it seems a simple operation can be carried out and it will improve my legs.

Good luck with operation. I'd be annoyed too if I'd got something that could be cured and was put down as something else.

What is the operation called that cleans the veins? I hope that it is successful and eases the pain or you.

ohhh makes my legs hurt just thinking about it... good luck with your op XXX

I have the horrible image of clinical DynoRod man doing the work, with his van parked outside the operating theatre door and a whole load of pipes and hoses running in!

Time for my tablets and a rest in the dark I feel NURSE!!!

I hope it works out well for you and you're pain free very soon. I now find myself if not in receipt of a plausable answer or where they look to be picking the first thing that comes into their heads challenging more and more, especially GPs.
With all the conditions and complications modern medicine has found today, nevermind the astounding range of diagnostics and treatments how can one Doctor know ALL there is about every condition - they need in some ways to be more like project managers, filing you off to see various specialists to hone down the source and cause of the problem.

The system would be far more effective from everyones perspective if one referred say to a Neurologist for diagnosis of neuropathy, that if you're all clear he referred you to a vascular specialist to see if there is a flow problem, then they're not writing to your GP, who in turn calls you in to tell you they need to refer you to someone else- the Neurologist writes to the Vascular chap, copying you and your GP on the letter they send out - two extra copies of the letter, two extra envelopes, two extra stamps and two minutes of the sec's time - job done, saved your time, your GP's time and the vascular chap knows exactly what's been checked in consultants speak already.

Someone, let me at the NHS, we could make this work for us :D

You're welcome to take over my hospital any day Einstein.
Yeah, typical problem is communication, doctors are rubbish at it and so's the rest of the NHS (yes, pharmacy included).
Good plan, one minor issue tho, i don't think we can afford the stamps... 🙂
