15 year old was diagnosed last July, recently fitted with a pump and we haven’t been to Dubai before, can someone help with the following please:-

- declaring meds on Dubai app, do I register with my daughters passport (not mine)
- have letter from nurse, is this ok or do I need doctors letter
- do I just need perception for insulin, libre and pens, I don’t have perception for pump but nurses letter had detail on this
- any known issues with X-ray machine or pump at Dubai or LHR airports?
- spending a lot of time in water with pump, and libre / tips to keep it on?
- any known problems with direct sunlight and pump?

Thank you!

My pump, CGM and I went to Dubai a couple of time last year for business and experienced no issues at either Dubai or Heathrow.
I always carry a letter from my endo but I have never had a need to show it since I got a pump. I do not carry prescriptions but these are now done electronically so I guess I could show them on my NHS app if necessary. But it never has been.

I never used the Dubai app and was never asked for it. Sorry if things have changed in the last year.

I would be concerned about having my pump in direct sunlight as it might get too hot. However, if your daughter is in the pool, it will be cooler and, if she is sunbathing, I recommend keeping her pump under a towel to avoid direct sunlight. My pump has always been fine under my clothing even when it was 40 degrees in the roof top bar at midnight when I was last in Dubai.

Regarding keeping her pump on in water, I suggest talking to your DSN or pump rep who should be able to provide suggestions as this will depend upon the type of pump. I know you can get waterproof patches to put over my pump, a Medtrum Nano.

My pump and many others are not even slightly waterproof so can't go in the shower let alone a swimming pool.

Really? All the pumps I have used over the last 8 years are waterproof for at least 30 minutes.
This is lucky because I can't remove my patch pump for a shower.
Like you, I would remove my previous tubed pump in the shower but that was because I had nothing to clip it to rather than the lack of waterproofness.
This was annoying because I shower first thing in the morning at about the time my FotF starts when I really needed the insulin. I am sure it is the main reason why my FotF has reduced in the last few years.

Don't you receive a copy of your prescription in the pack of dispensed medications each time? I do. In fact, when I recently had 3 months dispensed for an extended trip, the little pile of paper was quite thick.

Thankfully, to date, I don't take anything that would raise an eyebrow anywhere.

Not any more.
There is no reason to waste any more paper.
I have no idea about this because although our pharmacy is physically in the very same building as our GP surgery, they do have separate street doors and keep different hours so the 'cage' roller shutter door between the front of 'shop' are of the pharmacy can be walked into from the surgery waiting room area (with the usual chairs and the screen saying Name please go to Dr Bloggs in Room number) is not permanently open - the scrips are always sent electronically to your pharmacy of choice - BUT what used to be the RHS of the prescription separated from the LHS by perforations and the pharmacy kept so as to reclaim their money for dispensing and drug costs - they still print them and we still get a copy in every bag. There's nob all I can do about their waste of paper so frankly I decline to 'be bovvered'.

ROFL - some of us @helli also swim nekkid as jaybirds when possible anyway though I did have a bikini and Pete did have a pair of Speedos cos we always used to summer holiday in France and swimming shorts are not allowed in Public pools there so should we be visiting a town hence knowing we needed to wear clothes but it being scorchio and there is a handy lido we had used to go there and I had to buy yet another nasty yellow skincap since females MUST also wear a bathing hat, even with far shorter hair than mine in the photo whereas blokes don't have to even with as much hair as Bob Marley or similar.

I only ever use the most recent when travelling, but otherwise they are just shredded. Shame really.
