Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Recently been told I am pre-diabetic, and have started on the Blood Sugar diet one week ago, but over the past few months have been really struggling with a dry mouth at night, which drinking water doesn't seem to help. Could this be connected?

Hi ellesea and welcome to the forum. I’m afraid I can’t give you a definitive answer, but a dry mouth is a sign of dehydration, which is one of the symptoms of types 1 and 2 diabetes. Have you been told which type you could be?

Hello @ellesea , welcome to the forum.
It could be diabetes related to diabetes due to dehydration or perhaps Oral thrush, do you have a coating on your tongue ?Both can be caused by high blood glucose, I believe some medications can cause dry mouth too.

One thing I find strange is that it’s only at night you have a dry mouth

How are you getting in with the Blood sugar diet.

Thank you both for your comments. I am wondering if I just notice it more at night. I don't have oral thrush, but you could be right about the dehydration. Just completed week two of the BSD and it was a struggle. But back on track this week, lost 4lbs in the first two weeks. The food is good, just very restrictive.

Bit of a personal question, are you peeing more than normal. If so the thirst may well be due to your kidneys trying hard to flush out more glucose as it’s too high and their is only one way the kidneys can do that.
Do you know the figure you should have been given from the Hb1ac blood test when you were told you had pre diabetes, would you mind telling us what it was.

Good luck with the diet.
