I've just got a letter asking if I would take part in a drug trial for a drug that is supposed to lower 'bad' cholesterol and raise 'good' cholesterol. I would also have to take a statin - atorvastatin. Given that I stopped statins 6 months after diagnosis and my consultant thinks I have a very good split of LDL/HDL, I think I'll decline...

Apparently the intent is to try and enhance the effects of statins and help people avoid future CV events. I was selected probably on the basis of my suspected heart attack at diagnosis, although this actually turned out to be not a heart attack at all, but something called myocardopathy.

Anyone else been involved in any drug trials?

Not any trials Alan - but did take Atorvastatin with no side effects.
I cant see why you would want to though if you have been fine without.

Now - if they wanted someone to trial Byetta my name would be down🙄

LOL - I got that letter too - striaght in the bin. I gave em up cos of the side effects - Oooh, 2008 I think !

I think they assume that because we are D, and possibly also our age - then we are absolutely 100% gonna be on statins !
