On Monday the 22nd November the hospitals special diabetic nurse phoned me about my high blood readings and took me off my Levemir long acting insulin and replaced it with 2 new insulins (can't remember names) told me to contact Dr's on Wednesday when I contacted Dr's they new nothing about it so I had to phone nurse and tell her so they got in touch with Dr's and sorted it or so I thought as Dr's took my Levimir off my repeat perceptions so I phoned Thursday and asked the receptionist to order my new insulins and more test strips but I only got the test strips so I phoned again Friday where she checked and said it had been refused so she would try again and see Dr now I still have not had my new insulin and I'm almost out of Levimir so my question is does anyone have any advice if I phone Dr's again Monday if they say its been refused again with no explanation should I phone hospitals diabetic specialist and see if they can sort it? And should I put a complaint in against my Dr's as since pandemic they have gone down hill to be honest ps sorry if this is on wrong place new to all this

I think that you may want your diabetes nurse or consultant at the hospital to contact the doctor’s

Is it that you Doctor is refusing to put the new insulins on repeat prescription?

Yeah as you need that insulin. Is there a reason you think your Doctor is refusing to?

Haven't got a clue receptionist did not phone back and I have never had problems before but it will have to be hurried as I'm nearly out of old thanks for advice

I doubt they are refusing per se - much more likely to just be human error. That's no help to Laurence right at this moment of course and these things always happen at weekends or bank holidays.

@Laurence316 - do you also use a fast acting insulin as well as the Levemir at the moment or not? And - when will you actually completely run out of Levemir?

No don't use fast action insulin that's one of my new insulins as well as a new long lasting one to take at night I don't know why Dr refused as she took old one off repeat but has not added new ones and receptionist said she would find out but never called me back and yes will run out by Tuesday evening

Right, having now read your 'Intro' thread I strongly suspected you didn't have any other insulin to hand so Yes - You will have to ring again on Monday - and tell the receptionist immediately as soon as you get through that this really IS now very urgent indeed.

Update my specialist nurse just phoned me to see how it's going and she is phoning Dr's Monday to get it sorted ps if I had no insulin I would have gone round Dr's b4 they closed Friday to make sure I had some tbh but thanks for advice

Good news that your specialist nurse is going to speak to the Doctors and good luck

I'd have normally told you to ring 111 or even turn up at A&E - but to those of us with enough nous to know we aren't an actual mega emergency now this very minute - it's bloomin tricky knowing what to suggest, remotely. Glad you've got a good helpful DSN !

Please, will you let us know how things go after the weekend, and don't forget we're here all hours of the day and evening including weekends and bank holidays to cross examine whenever you don't know, or aren't quite sure about anything ! (even if you 'just wonder' about this or that, someone will most likely know about it)

Getting the insulin doses adjusted to suit your own body is an ongoing task. Got plenty of test strips for your meter - cos with the fast acting every time you eat, you will have to test more ?

Will do and I know it took a while to get my Levemir right well untill over a year ago that is but fingers crossed will get sorted soon

Personally I will not change my insulin prescription until I have received written confirmation of the change and the number of units required per month from the consultant or diabetic nurse. If it's not in writing not only do you have issues with changing the insulin but also with how much you receive......

I have instructions plus my new insulin is on my medication with instructions on patient access but not in repeat I'm not new to taking insulin I have been taking long lasting for over 13 years I do appreciate what you are saying but administering it is not the problem it's receiving the actual pens that I'm having the problem with to be honest thanks anyway

My consultant has little idea how many units I need per month and I can only provide a very rough estimate. My daily insulin requirements change every day depending upon what I eat, how much exercise I do, how stressful my work meetings and presentations are, whether I am unwell, ….

Ah, my GP surgery did exactly that when I changed from Libre 1 to Libre 2 - so having spoken to reception to see if the letter had been received, yes, all there on the system - I then needed to ask her to get a message to the GP to add it to my repeats AND provide the required first prescription. It took 3 days cos they just aren't that quick and I wasn't going to drop dead - but if you need the scrip to arrive at the pharmacy and be dispensed today, you'll have to explain that to whoever you speak to.
