Hello,

I know diabetics cant drive buses/planes/trains etc... but I work in a school - am I allowed to drive students in my car when they need to be transported somewhere? (When a small number of students are going on a day out staff use their cars rather than hiring a bus)

Anyone know the answer??

Hi,

I seem to remember when I asked this question a few years ago I was told that it was nothing to do with the DVLA as your entitlement allows you to drive that vehicle type and they aren't bothered about who the passengers are if you aren't charging.

The issue with it is more on the insurance side i.e. making sure you are covered for business use and not just commuting.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Agree with Gasman. Providing it is a standard car/estate that has not been modified to carry extra passengers there is no issue. Unfortuneately a school minibus would be a no no.

I work at a school and sometimes need to transport children. I'm insured for business use and always test and be seen testing before I begin to drive.
