Hi
I have been type 1 diabetic for 42years.
15 years ago I had laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy losing some of my peripheral vision in the process.
I had no problems driving even during the time I had my treatment and have had no trouble since, renewing my licence every three years and having a field of vision test every few years with no trouble
This year I have had my licence refused even though there has been no change to my sight in all that time and my vision otherwise is excellent.
Has anyone else had this happen and if so which route have you gone down to regain your licence please.
Thanks Mary

Hi Mary, sorry to hear about your problems. You mention no problems with your sight, but what about hypo awareness? You have to answer questions on the form about whether you have hypo awareness or have had any serious hypos where you needed help from someone else (e.g. paramedic). Are you sure you filled these parts out correctly?

Also what about your medical professionals - your consultant or GP. They may be asked for your health details about sight or hypo awreness, could you contact them and ask if they filled it out correctly?

If it's a simple mistake of someone ticking the wrong box hopefully it will be easy to rectify. You could try looking in the DVLA/driving section of the foum for any similar cases.

Good luck in getting it sorted!

Welcome to the forum Robina.Mary.

As Pigeon says, it could be a case of you or someone else ticking yes when they mean no or no when they mean yes.

However, you say you lost some periferal vision, but have no trouble driving, and it sounds like you pass field of vision tests when carried out? If your periferal vision is not adequate for safe driving - not just your safety, but that of other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists - then DVLA will withdraw your licence or fail to renew.

There's a section in this forum for Driving / DVLA, so you may find more useful threads there, including about appealing when licences are removed after errors in filling in forms.

Hi Mary and welcome to the forum.
I think you will find the DVLA have changed the rules on the peripheral vision seeing of things.
Do have a good look at the links provided in the driving section of the forum and also appeal the decision as on some old rule scheme you can get it back.
Have a look here http://iddt.org/ there is a news letter for June with someone's battle for reinstatement. (They won)

Re Peripheral vision

Thank you for your replies and help. I will look at websites for your suggestions and hopefully find some help. I have always had good warnings of hypos so that has never been a problem for me thankfully.
I don't think I have filled in the form incorrectly as they are only mentioning the vision problem but they don't say how far out my test is so thats one of the first questions I have asked.
