Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi
My wife has been Type 1 on insulin for almost 40 years. Well controlled.
Has always been seen by a diabetic consultant at local hospital. So when answering question on driving licence renewal form every 3 years it is easy to answer "When did you last see a consultant?"
Consultant has now written to say he may take her off his list and transfer care to her GP.
Will this in any way cause any problems when answering above question as the answer would be "5 years" in 3 years time.
Thanks in advance.

Paul

I was discharged back to my GP for a few years, and just filled in the GP's surgery details, it didn’t cause me any problems on renewal.

Edited for clarity, I got referred back to a consultant when I wanted to get the Libre prescribed, but now it’s available from GPs,I suspect I'm about to be kicked off the consultants list again, they’ve cancelled my last two appointments and not given me a date for one at present, and it’s coming up to 2 years since I was seen. To be honest, I don’t really need to be.)

If you don’t see a consultant then you don’t put the consultant details you just put the GP details. See help sheet for filling in the form, screenshot attached

I'm only under GP care, i've never had a consultant and my DSN referred me back to my GP during covid. I've recently renewed my licence with no problem.

I have a dilemma. The consultant I was under retired during covid, he rang me and told me I would be seen by his replacement.
I’ve never been seen….. I have never seen my GP for my diabetes, ever as I am supposed to be under the care of the hospital. I have had phone consultations with a DSN, Last one was a year ago. My surgery carry out my yearly bloods, which then the DSN can discuss with me.
My forms have come through to renew my licence. I have no idea what to put.
I never see my GP for diabetes.
I have no idea who my consultant is as I have never seen one since my previous one retired during covid.
What will I put on my form?
Thank you

Put the details of where the DSN is based - I think in recent times "seen" can be interpreted as telephone calls.
