Driving licence application forms for people with diabetes are to be rewritten following an intervention from David Cameron and complaints that EU rules on their fitness to drive are both confusing and being too harshly interpreted by UK authorities.

Drivers who need insulin to manage their condition are failing to obtain licences or renew them under a directive that bars them if they suffer two "severe" hypoglycemic attacks from a drop in blood sugar levels within a year.

Some changes to the application forms and guidance will need clarification from Brussels over whether this refers to all such attacks or just those in waking hours.

Well - he did say that about China didn't he? Wonder who put those words in his mouth .....

Mind you it's a bit very annoying to have DUK shoved into the background and Dave to get the headline. But I'm probably just being churlish - does it matter as long as it gets looked at?

Are the 'Gorniad' (as Ian Hislop or someone called them absolutely years ago because of the amount of typos they perpetrated) actually Tory biased? - I don't really keep up with these things .....

Haha! Quite the opposite, throughout their history TW! 🙂

Guarniad has never been right wing, always left wing / socialist / liberal. Sometimes still called Manchester Guardian, as that's where it started in 1821, although editor moved offices to London in 1964 and offices and printing presses in London were upgraded in 1976, but notoriety for typesetting errors continues to this day.

I like to feel they're one of the few papers that makes up for typesetting errors by printing their stories as accurately and factually as possible.

I don't read any papers, but their website is the only one I turn to for news. The environmental section is very good.

The Guardian along with the Independant have always been a good read and much prefer these to the Times or Telegraph, it's even better since they both changed from a broadsheet to tabloid format.

For me at the moment you can't beat 'i', the Independent's little brother - 20p a day and 30p on Saturdays, convenient tabloid form and stuffed with good quality news and articles. 🙂

That's exactly what I thought Copepod, actually and I remember it was the Manchester Guardian too - but wasn't sure whether I was right or wrong about it NOT being Tory biased.

Good !

It is good value for such a quality newspaper, sure I have the first edition printed somewhere in my loft.

Hopefully, once Leveson has concluded, the others will be consigned to scandal sheets (which they are already) and they can leave proper news to the 2 aforementioned papers.

I buy i newspaper a couple of times a week - best value newspaper I've ever found. Even better value than free newspapers which aren't so easy to find unless you pass through a railway station very early. Only drawback of i on Saturday is that it doesn't have TV guide for the week.
