Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi guys. I was diagnosed with Diabetes about 8 months ago now. They believe I am almost certainly type 1 but am going through my honeymoon phase. So at the minute its being treated like type 2 with me on metformin and glycazide just. I'm just wondering though am i restricted at all in my driving. I know there are certain types of jobs a type 1 isn't allowed to do (although not sure which). Also my car insurance is up very soon. Do I need to declare I am diabetic and if so which type should I say with my situation? Is this likely to bump my car insurance up a lot?

Thanks!

It shouldn't make any difference to your car insurance. If you go on insulin, you will have fill in a full form and hand in your lovely permanent driving license. You get a three year one instead. You also loose things like minibus driving off it.
Have a look at the posts in driving section and on dvla website.

When I told my insurance company they weren't interested at all - "It's up to DVLA to decide if you are able to drive and not the insurance company"... their words not mine!
So yes, my license is now a delightful 3 year one and there are a few less classes on it 😡 but apart from that there's no difference.
