Okay so I have a short term license, for a car and a trailor, felt a bit annoyed as over the years I hire a van to move this or that around for myself or a mate.

I might be moving home shortly and would much rather hire a 7.5 tonne van (we used a luton (3.5 tonne) to move where we are now and have acquired a few bits over the years!) but I'm not sure how much I will save, and how long it will take to get the license sorted.

If anyone out there has experience about the test, what test, and how long and how costly it would be I'd be grateful.

Also if I do do this when I renew my license currently in about 2 years, will I be able to renew that part each time or take a test each time??

Thanks

Ross

you dont need to be re tested to have the ability to drive a 7.5 tonner if you have done so in the past for your job. the dvla will ask you to attend a medical to asertain if you have good enough control or not to hold that part of your license.

I sent them (DVLA) an email explaining the situation via their website, I dunno about a week or 2 ago, just got an email saying they've received my enquiry and will respond within 3 days!?

I wonder how long this will take, or if I will get there!?

To be honest with most government departments its better to phone someone, send the time on the phone, get a name and department etc.

Most government departments are terrible at reacting to electronic communication, so us another means.

Cheers for that, I'll see how this email does first, there's no urgency with my request to be honest, as I'm not a regular van man, but find it useful sometimes, to shift gear, or help people out moving etc.

Can you tell me the categories you are allowed to drive (on the back of the pink plastic card) and the dates you passed these entitlements?

I can give you a better answer then.

Tez,

I currently only have the following:
B, BE, fklnp.
all these passed 04/10/94

cheers,

you'd probably need C1 which is big vans up to 7.5 ton

have you ever had this?

I used to have it as i passed my test way back when you got it automatically.
When i was diagnosed they removed the entitlement, but because i had already had it i found out i could fill in the forms and get it back without taking any more tests.
