People who drink three to four times a week are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who never drink, Danish researchers suggest.

Wine appears to be particularly beneficial, probably as it plays a role in helping to manage blood sugar, the study, published in Diabetologia, says.

They surveyed more than 70,000 people on their alcohol intake - how much and how often they drank.

But experts said this wasn't a "green light" to drink more than recommended.

Prof Janne Tolstrup, from the National Institute of Public Health of the University of Southern Denmark, who led the research, said: "We found that drinking frequency has an independent effect from the amount of alcohol taken.

It's an association, nothing to do with causation. It's not a big enough study. Experience in the wide world rubbishes this, because somebody would have noticed before. Hardly anything else has been studied more than the cause of Diabetes.

This is the sort of story that they simply shouldn't run, never mind make it a major headline on all the news bulletins :( Maybe people who only drink small amounts a week have a good relationship with alcohol and their diet/health in general?

All the type 2 diabetics I've known who died early have followed this advice strangely enough! 🙄

Grrr! Doctor on ITV news just stated 'Type 2 diabetes is ALL about lifestyle, Type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with lifestyle'. 😡 How on earth can you expect the public to understand when a qualified doctor on national news makes that assertion :(
