MORE than 700 people have been admitted to North Devon District Hospital for alcohol-related cases since 2011 – including more than 100 children.
More than 220 people have been treated each year since 2011, with 45 children in 2011/2012 alone. This works out at roughly four to five a week, said Dr Alison Diamond, chief executive of the hospital.
She said alcohol misuse placed a “heavy burden” on NHS Trusts and regularly drinking to excess had “serious health risks”.
