Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am SO longing for half a pint of my favourite drink with my favourite son. I know beer isn't recommended for a non-insulin injecting Type 2 diabetic, but at some time I'm going to give in and have one. Would it ameliorate it if I had it WITH a pub lunch after a hearty walk? With what food? Anything I can do to make the spike more acceptble?

Have you actually tested before and after having one to see if there is a spike and if so how big it is?

I haven't tested. To be honest I'm getting paranoid about my BG level and was warned by the diabetes nurse at my local surgery that beer was really bad and not to have it.

According to my food app (NutraCheck) and a couple of other web sites a pint of Guiness has 15 grams of carbs. Not a disaster, IMHO. It depends how low you need to keep your carbs.

Sounds like you’re avoiding something you like without even knowing if it’s a problem for you. Why not have one and call it an experiment, test before and after, find out if it’s a disaster or okay.

if you were to start self testing before and after a meal or drink
you would know how the meal / alcohol affects your levels
I think it’s a shame more healthcare professionals don’t encourage us T2’s to self test

Drink it, then decide.
But also balance diabetes and lifestyle.

Seriously man, 7g carbs for half pint isn't going to spike badly, enjoy it & dont worry about what nurse says, have 3 relations with type 2 & they enjoy a pint.
