Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I’ve been reading & Dr Jason Fung seems to pop up are his books worth getting & which ones ? having my bloods done a bit later & so hoping that I can stay off medication also bought some herbal Ceylon cinnamon capsules has anyone had any results with these? been following low carb diet lost about 18lbs over last few months just want to see what else I can do to help me on my journey

My advice would be sticking to the low carb diet, and avoid spending money on cinnamon capsules and taking advice from a kidney specialist (Dr Fung) on diabetic matters. His policy is intermittent fasting, which is far more difficult to do than a simple low carb diet.

With regard to cinnamon, I do quite a lot of Indian cooking, where cinnamon is a widely consumed ingredient. India is the SE Asian capital of type 2 diabetes, with a much higher incidence of Type 2 than in the UK. How come that there is so much Type2 in India when so much cinnamon is consumed?

Just stick to low carb, and avoid spending money on unproven medications - it seems a little odd that you are willing to take medication to avoid taking medication…😉

I know cinnamon was (in some small trials recently) thought to help with diabetes, but I thought there was a larger trial that showed it just didn't seem to work (suggesting the earlier results were just chance)?

(Nothing wrong with cinnamon. I get through quite a bit just in my coffee.)

I had cinnamon in some porridge for breakfast because I like the taste. I have read various studies on cinnamon supplementation and results differed quite widely so it might help a little or not at all. Perhaps it's something to do with your genes.
As for Dr Fung, you don't need to buy his books as there a lot of his video lectures on Youtube for free.

I have cinnamon in my breakfast yoghurt and berries every morning because I enjoy the flavour. Seems an awful waste of money (assuming more expensive than buying ground cinnamon) and taste and manufacturing to take it in capsule form! Not convinced that it is the secret to diabetes management or prevention. Just a marketing ploy to me. Low carb is massively more effective, so I would suggest you save your money on further capsules. On a low carb higher fat diet I naturally have spells where I fast. The fat and protein sets you up for that so I tend to eat when I feel hungry and it is convenient to do so, rather than eat 2 or 3 set meals. Somedays I just have breakfast and evening meal and some days I might go all day on a coffee with cream in the morning and just have an evening meal. Occasionally I have 3 meals a day but it is the exception rather than the rule. Some days I graze on low carb snacks all day and don't have any proper "meals". My BG likes those days best :D.

Thank you guys for your thoughts & answers after speaking to the nurse today I think low carb & fasting is the way forward for me here’s hoping my hbA1c results are good Happy new Year all

Please come back with any questions you have about a low carb approach, there are plenty of ideas in the food forum in the thread What did you eat Yesterday or some good low carb recipes for you to try.
