MORE than half of people tested for diabetes at an event last week were found to be at risk of developing the disease.

Diabetes UK and Bupa held the healthy lifestyle roadshow in Luton on Thursday and Friday, and tested 262 people for their Type 2 diabetes risk.

The event was held to try and identify some of the estimated 2,700 people in Luton who have the disease but do not realise it.

If diabetes is not diagnosed early enough, or is left untreated, it can lead to devastating complications such as stroke, heart disease, kidney failure and blindness.

The team referred 51 per cent of those tested to their GP after finding they had a medium to high risk of developing diabetes in the next 10 years.
