Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey everyone, I just joined today and was hoping for some support.

I've had diabetes for seven years and I am 17, I thought my blood sugars weren't that bad but then I just wrote them all up from the past month and realised they're actually terrible. There are so many that over 20, and then so many that are under 3, but I always over correct and then go really high, just can't seem to stop myself when I'm low. Does anyone else get this problem?

My HbA1c used to be 13 something, however I got put on the pump and in January it was 9.8, I need to get it down more to be able to keep the pump but don't have the motivation for diabetes anymore, sorry it probably seems selfish but you know when you're just having a down in the dumps week because of diabetes?

Anyone else feeling like this right now?
Thanks guys! 🙂

Hi Sophia & welcome.

I understand how you currently feel as I'm going through it at the moment.

And you aren't being selfish, it's a 24 hour 7 days a week thing & im sure you'd love a day off from it

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that you are feeling so fed up. That is a great improvement in your HBA1C so you must made have a lot of improvements. Well done. I got my pump after 41 years with diabetes and I love it but I completely agree that it is difficult when you are having bad days.

Thank you

Thank you both of you for your support it means a lot 🙂

I'm sorry that you are feeling down as well Laura! :(

Thank you AJLang and glad you are enjoying the pump as well (generally). They are quite amazing 🙂

We are a supportive bunch, when I posted yesterday moaning about it all, AJLang made me feel slightly better about my diabetes.

Thank you Laura it was really lovely of you to say that

Hi sophia, welcome to you, sorry your having problems i agree with Laura no you are not selfish, we are all here for each other.

Hi Sophia!

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to read you're struggling with your diabetes at the moment. I'm also like you, that if I'm feeling down about my diabetes, my control 100% disappears, making it a constant battle. But I'm getting there, and more often than not, these days I'm winning.

I notice you're from Kent. Me too! I think my profile here says Norwich, as that's where I study, but I'm originally from Kent 🙂

Big hugs, and feel free to pm if you want to!

Welcome to the forum Sophia 🙂

Hey Sophia 🙂

I'm new here too !

I don't understand a lot about Diabetes at the moment as I'm newly diagnosed but send you a great big hug 🙂

hi Sophie and welcome,

I can almost guarantee that we all have down days, as Laura said it's something that we have to live with every minute of every day... I've been a diabetic 18 years and at the moment I am struggling to find motivation as I'm doing everything asked of my and try unbelievably hard but nothing seems to be working but well done on getting our hba1c down so much, that's great! I got mine down to 7.6 from 9.1 (still not far enough for me but getting there) and that was the 'reward' that I needed to see my hard work was paying off.

Don't ever feel selfish for wanting diabetes to go away as I feel like that every day at the moment, and i try to keep telling myself things could be worse but it's tough and some days it seems like you never get a break from it. Recording your sugars though is a great start as once you start to see patterns then you can start to find solutions...

Big hugs!

Xx

Thank you so much! :D

Thank you so much to you all for welcoming me and making me happier just from reading your comments 🙂

Good luck to you Bonnie!! 🙂

Okay Persill I may have to take you up on your offer, especially as you're from Kent too 😛

Vix, thank you for your message although I definitely thought every diabetic must think this at some points but it's nice to hear other people talking about it (not because I enjoy their upset... I hope you know what I mean 😛 makes me feel less 'selfish' and 'alone' and I'm sorry that you are struggling for motivation but well done on the HbA1c, that's really good news! :D Keep going, you can do it. Yes I need to write mine out more, I'm doing well at the moment at writing them up at the end of every day or two :D

ps sorry for not writing on the newbie page, I didn't see you had one until after :')
big hugs to you all
xxxxxx

I'm type 2 so don't have a pump. There are a lot of times when I strugle to get contol and all I get is a lecture from the stupid doctor or nurse.

One of the things that makes me feel really down is a lack of support from anyone other than here.

I hope you feel better soon and get things sorted. Sorry I can't make ny suggestions, although you have had lots of replys.

Thank you Caroline, it's okay, support means as much as advice! 🙂 yes I agree with you about Drs and nurses just to tell us off. I emailed my Dsn for help and it's been over a week and she hasn't replied yet.

Thank you estella, it does seem like a vicious cycle :( oh I'm constantly on fb as well!! Haha! 😛

Hi Sophiaa_95,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you have to be here. It would help if you could post some levels (a few days worth) perhaps and also your basal/bolus/ratio's so we can see if there is anything obvious that could be tweaked. Sometimes when you are on top of the problem yourself you cant always see what the problem is. Do you keep a diary? I am not sure your team can the pump off you given that your HBA1C has improved dramatically - what is their reasoning for this?🙂Bev
