A KEYSBOROUGH woman has been recognised for her battle against diabetes since she was diagnosed more than 60 years ago.
Gail Walker has been awarded the Kellion Victory Medal by Diabetes Australia for her valiant effort in managing her illness.
The medal was established in 1984 to pay tribute to Australians who have lived with diabetes for 50, 60 or 70 years.
Mrs Walker credited her parents with giving her the tools to manage her condition. "My mother was very strict," she said. "She had to weigh all the food on the Salter scales. Everything I ate was weighed."
