Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
its been an age and I'm not a very good diabetic patient. I was diagnosed as type two in January 2016 it was caused by steroids . Long story short I had steroid spinal block which I get every six months I then had a frozen shoulder more steroids. I also take a daily dose of predisinol more steroids. The NHS in their wisdom gave me high doses for a chest infection was admitted to hospital and put on a steroid inhaler . I was prescribed metaphormin and glixoside . I had my first six months check as the nurse said perfect results. I have just had another again perfect her words not mine. My blood sugars according to the only inaccurate way any of us have of checking are always good . 5 or 6 in the morning going up to 7 or 8 after eating. I regularly get very low readings 3 and four. I also get the shakes and feel feint quite often. I asked my doctor would it be safe to stop the medication he wouldn't even discuss it as if I was mad. I decided last week to stop all medication the daily steroids all the diabetic medication, guess what same readings . I have not changed my diet from January 2016 so in my opinion whatever they thought I had has gone . Has anyone else ignored the doctors and done this without adverse affects just interested I just don't understand why the nurse doctor and any other medical person I speak to thinks I'm crazy and tell me I should keep taking the medication.

Just stopping your steroids cold turkey could have killed you if you have been taking them long term 😱

Go and tell your doctor what you've done, and the effect it's had on your BG results if you are confident it's had no effect. As Sue says, stopping steroids suddenly is often a short term plan, not ending well. That applies to quite a few medications.

It's not a good idea ignoring doctors completely. They won't mind, it's only you that will be affected.

Thanks I had a moment looked at all my medication and threw it all in a bag and took it to the unwanted prescription bin. I gave up predisinol ,OxyContin, tablets to stop me having an ulcer , tablets for this tablets for that . Bloods perfect no withdrawal . Going to go down the wim Hoff road any thing is better than all that rubbish.i think I was taking about ten different tablets twice a day . Doctors just don't follow up things.
